BIO Shirin Makaremi is an artist and curator in San Francisco, CA. She is multidisciplinary artist with a foundation in painting and drawing. Makaremi received her BA from San Francisco State University with an emphasis in Studio Art and Art History and a minor in Anthropology. She is currently the Director at Incline Gallery in San Francisco. This past year, Makaremi was part of SOMArts Curatorial Residency, where she worked closely with a group of four other curators to put together the exhibition Reorienting the Imaginaries. STATEMENT
I incorporate the glitches and the minor defects of daily life into my artwork. Sometimes the glitches are found in the technology I depend on. Like my cellphone mistranslating voicemails from my Mom. Other times it's my own mind and memory that disrupt my perception.
