STATEMENT
Mark making is central to my work. I explore essences in media: charcoal, glue with pigment, ink, chalk gesso, hemp and cotton canvas, wood, dry pigments, egg, oil paint. I like economy, luminosity, saturation and a line quality that describes energy and movement. I compose my work from life observation, photographs I take and book sketching. My book sketches connect performance and line making. I have performed with my books and sometimes use them to make sound. My figurative subjects come from my art community. Often my subjects are in a performance persona of their making. I am fascinated by performance, movement, mark making and sound and seek out those intersections. Much of my recent work has seen a deepening of line exploration and scale with an emergence of nature and self reflection themes.
